The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change issued a notification on May 31 announcing the decision.

With the latest move, the tenure of members and chairpersons of both bodies has been extended from three years to three years and six months.

Under the revised arrangement, the current members of both bodies can continue serving until December 12, 2026.

The ministry said the decision was taken in view of administrative requirements and will remain effective unless new committees are constituted before that date.

In Mizoram's environmental clearance framework, the SEAC examines and assesses project proposals before forwarding its recommendations, while the SEIAA takes the final decision on granting environmental clearance.

The extension ensures that both bodies continue functioning until December 12, 2026, unless new committees are constituted earlier.
