AIZAWL: Official border trade between Mizoram and Myanmar’s Sagaing division has been suspended for the past three days following the destruction of a bridge by the Myanmar army on Saturday (June 08).

According to sources, Myanmar Army personnel used explosives to demolish the suspension bridge over the Run River in the Teddim township area.

This bridge was a crucial link on the main road connecting Mizoram to Tahan town in Myanmar's Sagaing division.

The suspension of border trade, which typically occurs through the Zokhawthar border trade centre in Champhai district of Mizoram, has disrupted the flow of essential commodities, soft drinks, bread, various edibles, and electronic gadgets.

Mizoram shares a 510-km long unfenced border with Myanmar, facilitating both legal and illegal trade through this frontier.
