Aizawl: All India Radio (AIR) celebrated its 90th anniversary with synchronised walkathons across Mizoram, covering Aizawl, Lunglei, and Siaha on Friday morning.
Staff members from various district stations participated in the event, marking nine decades of public broadcasting in India.
The walkathons were organised by AIR Aizawl, AIR Lunglei, and AIR Siaha.
In the capital, participants began their march from the AIR station at Tuikhuahtlang and concluded it at the Millennium Centre.
Speaking at the event, AIR Aizawl Director and Mizoram Cluster Head Lalropuia said that while technology-driven lifestyles can lead to social isolation, AIR Aizawl remains a trusted companion for entertainment and information.
He further highlighted that the Aizawl and Lunglei stations are leaders in the Northeast region, particularly as early adopters of the e-office system.
Lalropuia emphasised a commitment to excellence, encouraging staff to continue their efforts to ensure that Mizoram stations remain among the finest in the country.
The walkathons followed earlier milestone events, including a ceremonial lamp-lighting and a “90 Years Musical Concert.”
The official anniversary celebration is scheduled for June 8 at Vanapa Hall in Aizawl, and will be attended by Chief Minister Lalduhoma.
Established on June 8, 1936, and headquartered in New Delhi, All India Radio currently operates a vast network of 230 stations across the country, with AIR Aizawl and AIR Lunglei serving as vital regional hubs.
