Mizoram: Two get 10 year jail, Rs 2 lakh fine for heroin smuggling

Aizawl: A special court in the Champhai district of east Mizoram has sentenced two men to undergo 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 2 lakh each for smuggling heroin. 

Special judge of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act Liansangzuala last week convicted Joseph Laldingngheta and Lalrosanga and sentenced them to 10 years jail term.

The special court also slapped a fine of Rs 2 lakh each against the two convicts and on default of payment, they will undergo additional 1 year imprisonment. 

Joseph and Lalrosanga were arrested by the state police at Tuisenphai police check gate in Khawzawl district on 26 April last year for possessing 897 grams of heroin worth Rs 40 lakh.

They were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act, 1985.

The two convicts were sent to a district jail on October 18.
