Aizawl: The district administration of Mizoram's southernmost Lawngtlai district, which shares borders with Bangladesh and Myanmar, has imposed restrictions near India's borders with Bangladesh and Myanmar given the unrest in neighbouring Bangladesh.

A prohibitory order issued by the district magistrate Cheemala Siva Gopal Reddy on Tuesday said that movement of individuals or a group of people within 3 km of both the international border (Bangladesh and Myanmar) is strictly prohibited during 12 hours between 6 pm and 6 am.

Travelling by vehicle and grazing of animals within 3 km of the international borders are also prohibited during the same period, it said.

Any person violating the order will invite legal punishment under section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the order said.

The order will remain in effect for two months from the date of issuance or until further order.

Three Mizoram's districts-Lawngtlai, Mamit and Lunglei- share a 318-km long border with Bangladesh and Lawngtlai is the first such district to have issued a prohibitory order given the Bangladesh unrest.

A senior police officer said that the influx of refugees from the neighbouring country has not been reported so far.

The state police are collaborating with the Border Security Force (BSF), which guards the Indo-Bangladesh border to prevent any influx, he said.
