Mizoram: Relief in sight as NH-6 repairs near completion

Aizawl: Mizoram Public Works Department (PWD) officials are optimistic that critical repairs to the severely deteriorated sections of NH-6 between Kawnpui and Khamrang in Kolasib district will be completed shortly, allowing trucks to resume their journeys on the route as early as next week.

According to officials, repair work is progressing steadily, and barring unforeseen rainfall, the road is expected to be fully reopened by the end of September.

Multiple teams are working around the clock to address the damage at over ten locations along the stretch.

The resumption of operations by oil tankers and other essential supply vehicles has brought some relief to the state, which faced shortages due to the road's deteriorating condition.

Mizoram's Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, B Lalchhanzova, confirmed that trucks have been entering the state since Friday evening, and he expressed confidence that normal supply levels will be restored soon.

The recent disruption in essential supplies was caused by the inability of hundreds of trucks to navigate the dilapidated NH-6 and 306, leading to a suspension of operations by the Mizoram Oil Tanker Drivers’ Association and the Petroleum Entrepreneurs’ and Transporters’ Union of Mizoram.
