Mizoram police & Assam Rifles seize 200 kg explosives, 200 detonators

AIZAWL: A major tragedy was averted as troopers of the Assam Rifles along with Mizoram police personnel seized a huge quantity of explosives near Aizawl.

Personnel of the Assam Rifles and Mizoram police seized a total of 1622 (200 kilograms) gelatin sticks and 200 detonators at Silaimual area on the outskirts of Aizawl.

During the joint operation, a 45-year-old resident from Mamit district of Mizoram was arrested for possessing the explosives.

One vehicle used for transporting the explosives was also seized by the forces.

Mizoram police also seized 8000 gelatin sticks and 1500 detonators in Hnahthial town near the Myanmar border.

The owner of the explosive Straliana, a resident of Bungtlang in Myanmar and a local resident, who transported the explosives were arrested in connection with the seizure, Mizoram police informed.

The explosives were seized while being transported to Myanmar, the Assam Rifles informed in a statement.
