AIZAWL: Lone Rajya Sabha MP from Mizoram K Vanlalvena has urged the central government to reconsider its decision to fence the India-Myanmar border.

In his letter to union home minister Amit Shah, Mizoram MP K Vanlalvena has raised concerns over Centre’s decision to fence the India-Myanmar border.

He said that fencing of the India-Myanmar border would likely to invite immense difficulties for the people of Mizoram.

Mizoram MP K Vanlalvena, in his letter to union home minister Amit Shah, said that the proposed fencing of the India-Myanmar border would adversely affect the livelihoods of the people of Mizoram residing in border areas.

It may be mentioned here that Mizoram chief minister Lalduhoma, earlier, had expressed his opposition to the Centre’s decision to fence the India-Myanmar border and scrapping of the freee movement regime (FMR) with Myanmar.

On Thursday (February 08), union home minister Amit Shah announced that the ministry of home affairs (MHA) has decided that the free movement regime (FMR) between India and Myanmar be scrapped to ensure the internal security of the country.

The union home minister said that the decision was taken to maintain the demographic structure of India’s Northeast states bordering Myanmar.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah, recently, had also said that the union government decided to construct a fence along the entire 1643-kilometer-long India-Myanmar border in the Northeast.
