Mizoram youth sentenced to 20 years for raping minor sister

AIZAWL: A 25-year-old youth from Lunglei district in South Mizoram has been sentenced to undergo 20 years imprisonment for raping his sister.

In a judgement pronounced by Vanlalenmawia, judge of a special court (POCSO Act) on Monday, Malsawmtluanga was convicted under section 6 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012) and was sentenced to undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping his 14-year-old sister.

The special court also slapped a fine of Rs 3,000 against the convict and on default of the payment he will undergo an additional ten days in prison. 

According to the judgment, the man raped his 14-year-old biological younger sister in Lunglei town at 2:30 am on July 29 last year when the victim was fast asleep.

The victim submitted a complaint at Lunglei police station resulting in the arrest of the accused. 

Several witnesses informed the court that the accused had the habit of abusing drugs by mixing heroin and alprazolam widely abused by the youths as well as liquor.
