Mizoram Lok Sabha Polls: More than 49% turnout till 3 pm

Mizoram: As per reports that have come in, more than 49 per cent of the total 8.56 lakh voters in Mizoram have exercised their franchise for the lone Lok Sabha seat till 3 pm on Friday.

 Polling for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram took place amidst tight security arrangements, according to reports.

The state recorded 49.77 per cent voting till 3 pm, according to an election official.

Officials said that polling concludes at 5 pm. However, voters who entered the polling area before 5 pm will be allowed to cast their votes after the deadline.

Earlier, Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Madhup Vyas appealed to the people, particularly government servants and their families, to turn up in large numbers to cast their votes.

The government has declared holidays for government servants and paid holidays for private sector employees to ensure that they exercise their voting rights in the elections, he said. Mizoram had recorded 63.13 per cent voter turnout in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma cast his vote at Chawlhhmun Middle School in the western part of Aizawl at 9.45 am.

Mizo National Front (MNF) president and former Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga cast his vote at 7 am, while Mizoram Congress president Lal Thanzara also exercised his franchise around 7:30 am.

Speaking to reporters after casting his vote, Mizoram Cm Lalduhoma exuded confidence that his party will win the Lok Sabha polls.
