AIZAWL: Mizoram chief minister Lalduhoma unveiled plans to introduce a new healthcare scheme, aiming to provide cashless health insurance to beneficiaries as part of an effort to revamp the existing system.

During a general discussion on the state’s budget, Lalduhoma highlighted that the proposed scheme would offer enhanced benefits compared to the current Mizoram State Health Care Scheme, which was initiated by the previous Zoramthanga-led Mizo National Front (MNF) government in 2019.

The development of the new healthcare scheme is underway to ensure better provisions for citizens.

Lalduhoma revealed that Rs 50 crore was allocated to settle all outstanding healthcare bills, with over Rs 45 crore set to be released to beneficiaries.

The issue of healthcare bills had been a prominent political concern leading up to the assembly polls in 2023.

The former MNF government in Mizoram under Zoramthanga faced criticism for its inability to clear pending healthcare bills, prompting backlash from various quarters.
