Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Thursday unveiled a slew of initiatives aimed at boosting the state's economy and improving the lives of its citizens.

In his Independence Day address, he announced an interest-free loan scheme of up to Rs. 50 lakh for deserving individuals, a comprehensive healthcare plan, and intensified efforts to combat the drug menace.

The proposed loan scheme, which the CM believes could be a first-of-its-kind in the country, will see the state government act as a guarantor and cover the interest.

The Mizoram Ceiling on Government Guarantees Act, 2011, is set to be amended to facilitate this initiative.

CM Lalduhoma also announced the upcoming 'Universal Health Care Scheme' that will provide comprehensive coverage to the entire population, including government employees and pensioners.

In a bid to stabilize the state's finances, the CM highlighted the government's focus on fiscal consolidation and its efforts to attract private investment through the Mizoram Sustainable Investment Policy 2024.

The chief minister emphasized the government's commitment to local development, including the promotion of agriculture, entrepreneurship, and skill development under the 'Bana Kaih' policy.

To address the pressing issue of drug abuse, Lalduhoma informed that the state has seized drugs worth over Rs. 66.8 crore so far and reconstituted a state-level core committee to strengthen the fight against the menace.

Administrative reforms, such as reducing ministerial vehicles and cutting down on unnecessary staff, have also been implemented to improve efficiency and reduce costs. The government has also taken steps to ensure that subsidized food grains reach the intended beneficiaries.

Mizoram has made significant progress in providing tap water connections to rural households, schools, and Anganwadi centers under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

The Independence Day was celebrated with fervor across the state, with the main event held at Lammual in Aizawl.
