Guwahati: Aiming to secure both Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya, the National People's Party (NPP) has claimed that two members in parliament would ensure more schemes for the state.

NPP working president Marcuise N Marak said that this would lead to smoother approval of central government schemes for the state.

"We are confident of Agatha Sangma's win in Tura and hopeful for a positive outcome in Shillong," Marak stated.

He added, "Under Chief Minister Conrad Sangma's leadership, the NPP has strived to transform Meghalaya, and we believe having two NPP MPs in Delhi would facilitate the clearance of central schemes for the people's welfare."

Marak defended Agatha Sangma against accusations of inaction during her previous term as Tura MP.

"She has contributed significantly," he asserted, citing her role in securing funds for school buildings and various central schemes.

Responding to concerns about Sangma's support for the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Marak downplayed its significance without offering further clarification.
