Shillong: Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit on Thursday warned that the party would resume protests if the state government does not immediately release the report of the Expert Committee on the State Reservation Policy of 1972.

Basaiawmoit, in a message to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, pointed out that more than six months have passed since the committee submitted its report in June 2025, yet it has not been made public.

He accused the government of hesitating to disclose the findings despite repeated requests from the VPP.

The VPP leader cautioned that the party would restart its agitation unless the report is released without further delay.

Earlier, the Chief Minister had said the report would be made public only after Cabinet approval but did not specify a timeline.

The Expert Committee, chaired by Justice (Retired) Mool Chand Garg, was set up in September 2023 to review the State Reservation Policy amid demands from various groups, including ongoing protests led by the VPP.

Although the committee submitted its findings to the government in June 2025, the report remains unreleased, raising concerns about transparency in the process.
