Meghalaya: Two new community reserves established

Guwahati: The Meghalaya government has announced the designation of two community reserves, effective immediately.

The Dorbar Shnong Mawpen Community Reserve, located in the Mawsynram C&RD Block of East Khasi Hills and the Ka Lum Thangbru Khloo Kynrien Community Reserve in West Jaintia Hills have been officially recognized.

These community reserves will be managed by local communities with the support of the Forest Department.

The initiative aims to empower local communities to protect their forests and wildlife, said an official.

The Dorbar Shnong Mawpen Community Reserve in East Khasi Hills will be led by Chairperson Kyrshan Risaw, alongside seven committee members, with the Divisional Forest Officer serving as Member Secretary.

Similarly, the Ka Lum Thangbru Khloo Kynrien Community Reserve in West Jaintia Hills will be headed by Chairperson Wanmi Dhar, with four committee members and the Divisional Forest Officer as Member Secretary.
