Meghalaya: Three nabbed with huge consignment of drugs in Lumshnong

Guwahati: East Jaintia Hills police in Meghalaya arrested three people on Wednesday morning and seized a large quantity of suspected heroin worth over Rs 3.6 crore in total in Lumshnong.

This was the fifth major drug haul by the district police within ten days.

The police apprehended the three suspects while they were travelling on two different night buses headed from Silchar, Assam towards Guwahati.

A search revealed 40 soapboxes containing heroin worth Rs 3.6 crore and 9.031 kilograms of cannabis (Ganja).

The arrested individuals have been identified as Amzad Hussain Laskar (18), Monib Hussain Barlasker (18) and Chamir Hussain Barbhuiya.

All of the accused were residents of Silchar in Cachar, Assam.

Police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act) and are detaining the three suspects.

In the last ten days alone, the police have confiscated a total of Rs 15 crore worth of illegal drugs.
