Meghalaya: Reservation policy report to be made public soon, says CM Conrad Sangma
Guwahati: The Expert Committee’s report on the Meghalaya State Reservation Policy, 1972, will be released soon, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said on Friday.
Addressing the delay in publication, Sangma cited the report’s large size and sensitive content as the reason.
He noted that the document weighs nearly 200 kilograms and spans 4,000-5,000 pages, requiring careful scrutiny since even minor errors or punctuation could affect the interpretation of the committee’s findings.
The statement comes a day after Voice of the People Party (VPP) president Ardent Basaiawmoit warned of renewed protests if the report was not made public.
Sangma explained that senior officials, including the Chief Secretary, are reviewing the report line by line and page by page, a significant administrative task due to the importance of the subject.
He added that once this review is completed, the report will be submitted to the Cabinet and then made public promptly.
The Chief Minister assured that there is no intention to withhold the report.
Sangma also stated that while the government is committed to transparency, the sensitive nature of the reservation policy requires careful examination, and no part of the report should be overlooked or rushed.
