Guwahati: A police team in Ri Bhoi, Meghalaya recovered a cache of weapons and explosives during an investigation linked to the HNLC (Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council) militant group.

The seizure, made on March 13, 2024, included a small firearm, gelatin sticks, detonators, and ignition fuses.

Police also found HNLC flags and other "incriminating" materials during a house search conducted based on information provided by a suspect.

According to reports, this "sleeper cell" has reportedly been active in recent years, hoisting HNLC flags at the instruction of Bangladesh-based fugitives associated with the militant group.

Investigations suggest that these fugitives use financial incentives, including offering new vehicles, to motivate members to carry out alleged attacks.

The police are currently investigating the matter.
