Meghalaya police book top three KSU leaders over vandalisation of High Court vehicles
Guwahati: East Khasi Hills police have registered cases against Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) president Raymond Kharjana, general secretary Reuben Najiar and vice-president Pynkmenlang Sanmiet in connection with the vandalisation of two Meghalaya High Court vehicles at Mawlai Phudmuri and Mawlai Nonglum on the evening of August 19.
The three KSU leaders were produced before the District and Sessions Court on Saturday. They had previously been booked in other cases linked to the violence on August 19, including incidents involving Assam tourist vehicles.
The latest action comes ahead of the Meghalaya High Court hearing scheduled for September 1. The state government is expected to submit a fresh status report and produce the case diaries in PIL No. 16 of 2026, filed by the Registrar General of the High Court of Meghalaya against the State of Meghalaya.
During the previous hearing on August 24, a Division Bench comprising Justices Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew and Wanlura Diengdoh observed that, apart from the arrests of KSU office-bearers, no further arrests had been made in connection with the violence.
Advocate General Amit Kumar informed the court that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had been constituted to investigate the incidents.
The Bench subsequently listed the matter for further hearing on September 1.
