Guwahati: The Meghalaya Police said that they have not discovered any signs of foul play in the death of IFS official N Luikham.

East Khasi Hills SP, Rituraj Ravi stated that they have initiated an inquiry into the case, categorizing it as a natural death.

The SP also asked people to share any possible evidence or link to the case that might be helpful.

Despite the Indian Forest Service Association's (IFSA) plea for a CBI investigation, stating that he died due to allegations of sexual harassment by a government officer, the police said that they found no evidence connecting his demise to these allegations.

A letter was sent to Chief Secretary DP Wahlang by IFSA, claiming the alleged harassment and lobbying from the mining sector, has not influenced the police's stance.

The deceased official was discovered at his residence on March 13.

Following this, the IFSA called for a detailed CBI investigation to address the circumstances surrounding his death.

Luikham was found dead at his residence on Wednesday and the cause of death was reported to be suicide.

He was a 2003 batch of the Indian Forest Service. Police informed, adding, he was serving as the chief conservator of forests with the Meghalaya government.
