Guwahati: The Meghalaya Public Service Commission’s newly inaugurated centre in Tura has begun functioning immediately, conducting its first written examination on November 15 and signalling a major shift in how competitive exams are accessed in the western part of the state.

By holding the test just days after the centre’s inauguration, the government demonstrated its intent to decentralise examination facilities and reduce the burden on aspirants who previously had to travel long distances to Shillong for major exams, including the state civil services.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma highlighted the achievement in a Facebook post, stressing that the state government has prioritised expanding examination infrastructure so that opportunities reach every region. He noted that the demand for MPSC centres in different districts has been longstanding, and the administration is now actively working to meet those expectations.

Sangma said the Tura facility would "benefit thousands of aspirants" preparing for MPSC and other competitive examinations, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving exam-related amenities statewide. He added that officials are already exploring additional centres to ensure students across Meghalaya can access fair and convenient testing environments.
