Guwahati: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday inaugurated the new office building of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) at Dakopgre, Tura, in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills, highlighting that the facility will benefit local youths by bringing recruitment examinations and interviews closer to their homes.

Addressing the gathering, the chief minister noted that the new MPSC office would ease the challenges faced by candidates from Garo Hills, who previously had to travel “10 to 15 hours overnight to Shillong” to attend exams.

“Many candidates would arrive exhausted and head straight to the exam hall without adequate rest. With this new office, students can now take their exams and interviews here in Tura,” he said.

He emphasized that the long journey and lack of proper rest often affected candidates’ performance, presenting a major hurdle for aspirants from Tura and other parts of Meghalaya.

“This is one of the most significant office inaugurations, and its impact on the youth and their future will be substantial. It is a matter of great satisfaction to open this office today,” the chief minister added.

Conrad K. Sangma also announced that the first MPSC examination in Tura will take place on November 14, 2025, marking a new chapter in making public service recruitment more accessible. He further stated that similar facilities are planned for Jaintia Hills to ensure equal access across the state.

Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Thomas A. Sangma, present at the event, described the inauguration as a landmark occasion that “signals a new phase in transparent, accountable, and people-centric governance.”

Other dignitaries at the ceremony included West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal, MPSC (Tura) Chairman Abraham T. Momin, and officials from various government departments.

The new MPSC office in Tura will facilitate examinations, interviews, and recruitment activities for candidates from Garo Hills, reducing the need to travel to Shillong and ensuring greater convenience and accessibility for aspirants.
