Meghalaya: New link road inaugurated in Shillong to reduce congestion
Guwahati: To reduce traffic bottlenecks near the Anjali petrol pump, Meghalaya Cabinet Minister and local MLA Sanbor Shullai on Saturday opened a new link road behind the N.E.F.A. Secretariat in Shillong’s Cantonment area.
The newly built road offers an alternative route for drivers leaving Shillong or traveling toward Upper Shillong and Garikhana, allowing them to avoid the congested main junction.
Covering a distance of 0.185 km, the project cost around Rs. 3.36 crore. It was launched under the MDA government led by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong supervising the PWD (Roads & Buildings) department.
Senior officials, including the PWD Secretary and Chief Engineer, as well as engineers from the Shillong Central Division, were present at the inauguration.
Shullai said the new route should help cut down traffic congestion by around 10 to 20 percent. He expressed gratitude to everyone involved in making the project a reality and acknowledged the support of the Arunachal Pradesh government, as the land falls under their jurisdiction.
“It is a proud moment to unveil this road. I hope it will make daily travel smoother for commuters,” he added.
