Guwahati: The Khasi Students' Union (KSU) has issued an ultimatum to the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL), demanding compensation for the family of an electrocution victim.

It may be mentioned that 19-year-old Jimwillson Thongni died from electrocution in Rangblang Pombriew village recently.

The victim's body was discovered by children foraging for wild nuts near an electric pole in a nearby forest.

The villagers and KSU accused MePDCL of negligence, citing repeated pleas to address damaged electric poles and low-hanging power lines that were ignored.

The KSU expressed concerns over the authorities' inaction, referencing a previous incident where a young girl lost her hands to electrocution near a transformer.

They warned that if these issues remain unaddressed within a month, the union will take stern action.
