Shillong: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) is continuing with its anti-migrant drive in Shillong city of Meghalaya.

The KSU expelled more than 21 migrant workers from various construction sites at Mawlai area in Shillong city of Meghalaya on Wednesday (July 31) after discovering they were working without valid documents.

In a statement, the KSU informed that its Mawlai unit conducted checks on work permits and identified over 21 undocumented migrant workers.

“Such workers have been immediately pushed back,” the statement read.

The KSU stated that this action was part of their efforts to pressure the Meghalaya government to enforce the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) 2016, and the Inner Line Permit (ILP).

The students’ body asserted that these measures are crucial to curbing the influx of undocumented workers and safeguarding the rights and interests of the indigenous people of Meghalaya.
