Meghalaya: IMD predicts warmer days, below-normal pre-monsoon rainfall
Guwahati: Meghalaya is likely to experience above-normal temperatures and below-normal rainfall during the April–June period this year, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In its latest seasonal outlook, the weather office stated that both maximum and minimum temperatures across the state are expected to remain higher than usual. However, it clarified that heat wave conditions are not anticipated during this period.
The forecast also points to a likely rainfall deficit across several parts of the Northeast, including Meghalaya, raising concerns over emerging dry conditions in the coming months.
Officials indicated that the combination of warmer daytime and nighttime temperatures could result in heightened thermal discomfort, particularly during prolonged dry spells. They also cautioned that reduced rainfall may affect water availability and agricultural activities, especially in areas dependent on rain-fed farming.
The outlook underscores the need for preparedness in managing water resources and mitigating the impact of rising temperatures on vulnerable sectors.
