Meghalaya: Hima Sohra adviser alleges limestone overloading, demands investigation
Guwahati: Wellborn Bynnud, the legal adviser of Hima Sohra, has alleged that trucks exporting limestone from Meghalaya to Bangladesh through the Majai Land Custom Station are evading weighbridges.
According to a report by Highland Post, he alleged that most of the trucks evading the weighbridges are overloaded.
Bynnud claimed that he possessed documentary evidence to support his claims.
Bynnud also revealed that private vehicles have intentionally blocked the road leading to the weighbridge, preventing trucks from passing through.
He stated that Hima Sohra had previously met with the Assistant Commissioner of Transport to report the department's failure to monitor truck weights.
It may be mentioned that a source claimed that some trucks operating in the route are often modified and customised to bypass some norms.
Usually, a truck's design is changed so that it looks like a stock vehicle but can carry more goods than it is capable of.
Often tipper trucks are seen with a customised and raised body which bypasses the design.
