Meghalaya: East Khasi Hills DC assures peaceful Durga Puja celebrations

Guwahati: Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills in Meghalaya, RM Kurbah has assured that Durga Puja celebrations will proceed peacefully, following inspections that found no pandals encroaching on public spaces.

Responding to complaints from a local pressure group, Kurbah stated that magistrates and police are collaborating to maintain order.

She stated that India has a secular spirit, urging respect for all festivals. The administration said that it was also monitoring the situation closely and has advised puja committees to install CCTV cameras for enhanced security.

Earlier there were several allegations that some of the pandals were on public spaces and were obstructing the traffic.

However, the administration found no trace of any pandal on public spaces.
