Meghalaya considering Alternative relocation plan for Harijan Colony
Guwahati: Meghalaya Chief Secretary DP Wahlang has claimed that the state government is considering allotting land adjacent to Harijan Colony for the relocation of its 342 families.
The decision was taken following discussions with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Save Shillong Sikhs (SSS) representatives.
The proposed plan aims to save the existing Gurdwara and allow residents to develop the new land themselves, reducing government expenses.
Wahlang clarified that relocation has not been deferred, but a status quo is being maintained while exploring the new land option.
The government has also written to the defence secretary for the land allocation and a high-level meeting between the Chief Minister and the Union Defence Minister is expected.
- He also informed that the new land would be equivalent in size to the existing colony.
However, the residents will have to develop new land, saving government costs,
