Meghalaya Congress chief alleges BJP-RSS behind ‘One North East’ initiative
Guwahati: Meghalaya Congress president and former Union Minister Vincent H. Pala has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are behind a regional initiative aimed at uniting the indigenous communities of the northeast.
The ‘One North East’ front was launched in New Delhi in November by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma. The stated goal of the front is to highlight the concerns of the region’s indigenous communities.
“The BJP knows that the indigenous communities of the northeast do not like it. This front was designed as a basket for people who are anti-BJP, so that they do not go turn to Congress,” Pala told journalists in Shillong on Monday (December 1, 2025).
Pala claimed that he had learned about the plan from BJP and RSS leaders. “The new front is already talking about supporting the BJP. They will work with the BJP after the election,” he said, noting that the founders of ‘One North East’ were former leaders and associates of the BJP.
Other key figures involved in the front include former BJP national spokesperson and ex-Nagaland Minister Mmhonlumo Kikon, and Daniel Langthasa, the founder of the People’s Party of Assam.
The initiative aims to unite regional parties across the northeast into a single platform for elections and to advocate for the region’s people.
