Meghalaya: BJP names Bernard Marak as Gambegre by-poll candidate
Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Meghalaya party president and Tura MDC, Bernard N Marak, as its candidate for the upcoming Gambegre Assembly constituency by-poll.
This development comes ahead of the November 13 election.
State BJP chief spokesperson, Mariahom Kharkrang, confirmed that Bernard was chosen from a list of three aspirants.
With the candidate declared, the BJP will now intensify its campaigning efforts, activating all party units and wings.
Kharkrang acknowledged the electoral battle in Gambegre will be challenging, with prominent contenders like Mehtab Chandee, wife of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, and GHADC MDC Sadhiarani Sangma.
However, he expressed confidence in Bernard's popularity and the party's garnered support over the years.
The by-poll was necessitated by Saleng A Sangma's resignation after winning the Tura Lok Sabha constituency in the last parliamentary election.
Other candidates, including GHADC MDC Sadhiarani Sangma (Trinamool Congress), Mehtab Chandee (National People's Party), and Jingjang M Marak (Congress), are expected to file their nominations by October 25.
