Guwahati: The BJP in Meghalaya has accused the ruling National People's Party (NPP) of blackmailing residents in Gambegre, threatening to withhold welfare schemes and MGNREGA wages if they vote against the NPP candidate.

BJP vice president and Gambegre candidate, Bernard N Marak, claimed that NPP-affiliated block chairmen have halted MGNREGA payments and intimidated villagers, warning that central schemes like PMAY and JJM would be cancelled if they oppose the ruling party.

Marak stated that the BJP's focus is on combating corruption, promoting development, and improving education.

He alleged misappropriation of resources, citing instances where CGI sheets meant for BPL families were given to NPP supporters.

Marak also claimed that Gambegre lacked development, including poor connectivity, inadequate drinking water, and health and education infrastructure.

He criticized the condition of local schools, citing the absence of basic amenities.

The BJP leader said that it was quite concerning that there was misuse of state machinery.
