Meghalaya: 4 held in Nagaland for Ri-Bhoi petrol pump robbery

Nongpoh: Meghalaya Police have arrested four suspected dacoits in connection with the robbery of a petrol pump at Umran Niangbyrnai in Ri-Bhoi district on August 25, officials said on Monday.

The suspects, believed to be residents of Dimapur in Nagaland, allegedly assaulted the pump's manager and staff before making off with a substantial amount of cash and mobile phones, said a police official.

The arrested dacoits have been identified as Bokavi Zhimomi (25), Pashen Lam (32), and Rokongulie Kepu (18), he said.

A fourth suspect, Tsalipi (26), is currently detained in Tuensang district of Nagaland and is expected to be handed over to Ri-Bhoi police custody shortly, the official added.

Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police (SP), Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, confirmed that the police have seized the vehicle used in the robbery, a Bolero with the registration NL07 CB 0156.

Further details regarding the amount of cash stolen and the ongoing investigation are expected to be released in the coming days.
