Lok Sabha elections: Meghalaya readies polling stations along Bangladesh border

SHILLONG: Meghalaya boasts over 140 polling stations along its international border with Bangladesh and 187 stations bordering Assam.

This was informed by Meghalaya chief electoral officer (CEO) Dr BDR Tiwari.

Dr Tiwari highlighted that all concerns pertaining to the Assam-Meghalaya inter-state borders have been addressed in a meeting convened at the level of chief secretaries of both the states.

“Every requisite arrangement is being meticulously made to ensure elections are conducted freely, fairly and seamlessly,” he added.

He further noted that Assam-Meghalaya inter-state border issues were revisited in a meeting chaired by the election commission of India (ECI), attended by all chief secretaries and DGPs.

Regarding Meghalaya’s specific preparations, Dr Tiwari clarified, “There are no particular issues as we have already addressed concerns in the inter-state meeting between the chief secretaries of both states. All pertinent agencies, officials, logistics, and issues have been thoroughly discussed.”

Emphasizing Meghalaya’s readiness for free, fair, and peaceful elections, the CEO assured that the state is well-equipped to address any challenges in accordance with the ECI directives.
