Gambegre bye-election: Meghalaya TMC fields Mukul Sangma's sister-in-law
TURA: Meghalaya TMC has announced its decision to field Sadhiarani M Sangma, the lone woman member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), as its candidate for the upcoming bye-election in the Gambegre assembly constituency.
Briefing the media on Friday, Mukul Sangma, a senior party leader and former Meghalaya chief minister, revealed that the state unit if the TMC, led by its president Charles Pyngrope, along with other election committee members, had thoroughly discussed and endorsed Sadhiarani's candidature.
Sadhiarani M Sangma, who represents Dengnakpara in the GHADC, is also the wife of Zenith M Sangma, a former Rangsakona legislator and Mukul Sangma’s brother.
"The committee unanimously decided to recommend Sadhiarani's name for final approval as the TMC candidate for the Gambegre bye-election. We are now awaiting the chairperson's formal approval, after which her candidacy will be officially announced," stated Mukul Sangma.
He added that the party is fully committed and actively preparing to secure victory in the Gambegre constituency in Meghalaya.
The bye-election was necessiated by the resignation of Saleng A Sangma, a Congress leader, following his election as an MP from Tura Lok Sabha constituency.
