BJP in Meghalaya advocates for complete exemption from CAA

Guwahati: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Meghalaya has voiced its stance in favour of securing full exemption for the state from the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in the state.

Senior BJP leader and Cabinet Minister AL Hek claimed that they will be pursuing this matter with the central leadership, asserting that the exemption should apply universally across all Northeastern states, irrespective of whether they fall under the Sixth Schedule.

Hek stressed the importance of addressing this issue in the interest of the state's welfare and called upon leaders from all political backgrounds to prioritize the well-being of the people above all else.

Responding to concerns about the timing of the CAA rules being announced just before the Lok Sabha elections, Hek expressed confidence that obtaining an exemption for Meghalaya would benefit the BJP's electoral prospects in the state.

Meanwhile, BJP's South Shillong MLA, Sanbor Shullai, urged the public not to be misled by misinformation campaigns regarding the CAA, highlighting that the Sixth Scheduled areas, including Meghalaya, are explicitly exempted from its provisions.
