Meghalaya: Villager shot dead in altercation with BSF in EKH

Guwahati: A villager from Shella village in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district was allegedly shot dead by a Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Friday night following an altercation.

The deceased has been identified as Arsen M Marak.

According to reports, the post-mortem examination is underway and police are investigating the incident but have not yet received any First Information Report (FIR) from either side.

A police source said that there are reports that the incident took place after an alleged altercation between them.

"There was an altercation between them, and the BSF used fire," The police said that the BSF in their statement stated that they were attacked and threatened, so they used fire in "self-defence".

The police said that they are still investigating and inquiring into the matter.

The police haven't received the FIR from the villagers' side yet. 

The matter is still under investigation.
