The UDF claimed that the exodus of migrant labourers following recent checks by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has highlighted the problem.

While acknowledging the need for skilled labour in certain sectors, the party emphasized the importance of prioritizing local employment opportunities.

With a significant portion of the workforce having left Meghalaya, concerns over project delays and economic impact have arisen.

The KSU has justified its actions, citing the government’s failure to implement the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act and the Inner Line Permit.

However, contractors have blamed the pressure group for creating a hostile environment for migrant workers.
