Guwahati: The Border Security Force (BSF) arrested two men from the international border in East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya with a huge amount of Bangladeshi currency notes.

As per officials, the two men were residents of Meghalaya and were found carrying a significant amount of Bangladeshi currency.

They were found with 3.40 lakh taka, which is roughly equivalent to Rs. 2.42 lakh.

The officials said that acting on a tip-off, the BSF conducted a special operation in the vicinity of the Nayabazar border outpost.

During the operation, BSF personnel spotted two Indian nationals behaving suspiciously near the border.

Upon searching them, the BSF recovered a bag containing Bangladeshi taka notes in denominations of 500.

The two men were subsequently taken into custody.

Preliminary questioning revealed the identities of the individuals as Balanus Mawroh from Nongjri Wahsier and Enterness Khongsni from Nongjritluh.

According to a BSF press release issued today, the large sum of Bangladeshi currency was likely intended to be used for illegal activities across the border.

The apprehended individuals along with the seized Bangladeshi taka have been handed over to the Pynursla police station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
