Meghalaya: Two alleged rapists lynched by mob in EWKH

Guwahati: Two men were allegedly lynched by a mob in Eastern West Khasi Hills in Meghalaya for allegedly attempting to rape a girl.

As per reports, the youth were lynched at the Nongthliew village in EWKH on Friday.

Sources said that they "attempted to rape" an 18-year-old girl in the village.

Locals claimed that villagers had caught them in the act of trying to assault the girl sexually.

As they say them, the villagers captured the suspects and took them to the Sordar of the village for further enquiry.

The Sordar then sent the girl to her home and further took the accused to confirm the incident.

The girl alleged that the duo tried to rape her at knifepoint.

Following this, the accused were taken to a community hall of the village to ensure their safety till the police arrived.

However, by then the villagers had come to know of the incident and they rushed to the community hall and assaulted the accused.

The villagers assaulted the accused in such a way that they did not even allow the police to take custody of them.

After a while, the crown was controlled and the accused were taken to the Tirot Sing Memorial Civil Hospital at Mairang but one of them died during treatment.

Another accused who was shifted to a hospital in Shillong died in the night owing to the severity of his injuries.

The police have begun an investigation in connection with the incident.
