Meghalaya: Trucker associations blame overloaded vehicles for damage to NH-6

Guwahati: At least Two truckers' organisations, the East Khasi Hills Truck Owners and Transporters Association and the East Jaintia Hills Limestone Suppliers Association in Meghalaya, have called for stricter enforcement against overloaded trucks on National Highway-6.

They met with the Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills yesterday to express their concerns about the damage caused by these vehicles.

The groups specifically pointed to the Narpuh circle, where excessive weight has led to severe road pavement damage, including potholes and bumps.

Citing the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and the Prevention of Damages to Public Properties Act, 1984, the associations urged the deputy commissioner to take action against overloaded trucks, particularly on the Narpuh-Sonapur bridge stretch.

They also requested repairs for the damaged highway.
