Shillong: The tourism industry in Meghalaya is reportedly facing a significant setback due to recent incidents involving the Hynniewtrep Youth National Front (HNYF), which has been checking tourists at strategic locations.

The Tourism Operators Association of Meghalaya has expressed concerns over the impact on the state's tourism sector.

The association has reported a surge in hotel cancellations and a decline in tourist arrivals from Assam, a key market for Meghalaya's tourism industry.

Social media comments advising against visiting Meghalaya have further exacerbated the situation.

To mitigate the damage, the association is working with the All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association to find solutions and restore confidence among tourists.

The government has also been urged to address the issue promptly and restore normalcy in the state.
