Meghalaya: Three NEEPCO Unions merge to form registered union
Guwahati: In a significant development for employee representation, three unions affiliated with the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) have consolidated into a single entity at a program in Meghalaya.
The merger, finalized during a day-long convention held at the NEEPCO Auditorium in Shillong, unites the NEEPCO Workers Union, NEEPCO Employees Union, and the Federation of NEEPCO Employees Union under the banner of the Registered Trade Union of NEEPCO (RTUN).
The convention drew participation from employees and workers across Northeast India who operate under NEEPCO.

Subhash Kumar Roy, a retired Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner, served as an independent observer for the proceedings, which also involved the IR department.
The evening session was graced by Cabinet Minister AL Hek as the chief guest. Padma Shri awardee Patricia Mukhim, Editor of The Shillong Times, joined the event as the guest of honour.
Other notable attendees included NEEPCO's executive directors, senior officials, representatives from the Meghalaya Government Employees Union, and the Meghalaya Bank Employees Association.

During his address, Minister Hek emphasized the importance of employees viewing themselves as stakeholders in NEEPCO, going beyond a simple "9 to 5" mentality.
He highlighted the vast hydropower potential within the Northeast region and acknowledged NEEPCO's crucial role in harnessing this resource.
Furthermore, he expressed his commitment to assisting NEEPCO in navigating any issues arising with the state government or the Ministry of Power.
