Guwahati: A rift has reportedly emerged among teachers under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in Meghalaya, with some seeking absorption into the Education Department and others demanding a 100 per cent salary revision.

The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) has opted for absorption, citing a government proposal to create posts and shift existing SSA teachers to the Education Department.

In a letter to Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, MSSASA requested completion of the absorption process within two months, warning of democratic movement/agitation if delayed.

However, the All Meghalaya SSA School Teacher Association (AMSSATA) is demanding a 100% salary increase, citing no revisions since 2016. AMSSATA president Peter Thyrniang emphasized that only written assurances will be accepted.

It may be mentioned 12,541 SSA school teachers are currently appointed by school managing committees and not directly by the government.

According to reports, additional funds of Rs 300 crore would be required to regularize their services under the Education Department.

While the MSSASA wants absorption, while AMSSATA demands a salary hike, reports, stated.
