Meghalaya: Shillong-Dawki road project to be expedited post-monsoon

Shillong: The long-awaited Shillong-Dawki Road project in Meghalaya is set to gain pace once the monsoon season subsides, according to officials.

Despite the challenges posed by the rainy season, significant progress has been made on Package 1 of the project, which spans from Shillong to Upper Shillong.

Work on Package 2 has commenced, with earth-cutting underway at various stretches.

The road width will be increased to 10 meters, with a paved shoulder, from the current 5.5 to 7 meters.

Although the project has faced delays due to the monsoon, officials have re-allotted work to contractors, ensuring steady progress.

The challenging Pynursla Bypass remains a significant hurdle, but a solution is being worked out.

The final stretch of the road, measuring 1.47 km, will feature a four-lane concrete design, connecting to the existing road after the Dawki bridge. The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) will execute this portion on a Greenfield alignment, as the existing valley terrain is not suitable for expansion.
