Meghalaya: Security personnel carry out foot march in Shillong ahead of LS polls

Guwahati: With less than a week left for the Lok Sabha polls scheduled on April 19, the security personnel on Saturday carried out a foot march in Shillong City to address the law and order situation.

In the last couple of weeks there has been a series of violence that has happened in the state, recently, East Khasi Hills (EKH) witnessed three murders —two in Ichamati and one in Mawlai Mawroh — the last in two weeks.

There are also sporadic incidents of disturbance being reported during the poll campaigns.

According to police personnel, the primary aim of this security march is to build confidence and also to deal with any eventuality that might happen in and around the polling dates.

The route taken for the security march on Saturday is Laitumkhrah-Rynjah from the SP’s office.

This route march is expected to continue in Shillong till the polls.
