Meghalaya seeks Rs 1000-crore central aid for New Shillong city project

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government has sought a Rs 1000-crore aid from the central government for the New Shillong city project.

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday (July 15), requesting the financial assistance.

During the meeting, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma discussed various developmental initiatives for the state.

The Meghalaya CM stressed on the need for substantial financial support from the Centre for the ambitious New Shillong city project.

“We have sought financial aid of Rs 1000 crore for the New Shillong city project,” Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma stated.

In addition to his meeting with the Prime Minister, the Meghalaya CM also held discussions with union home minister Amit Shah regarding pending projects critical for the state’s development.

Furthermore, CM Conrad Sangma met with union minister of food processing Chirag Paswan to explore opportunities for expanding the food processing industry in Meghalaya.

These discussions are part of a comprehensive strategy to stimulate economic growth and create new opportunities in Meghalaya.

The Meghalaya government plans to utilize nearly 25 acres of land to enhance the state’s aesthetics, promote its diverse culture and alleviate traffic congestion in Shillong.
