Meghalaya releases Rs 19.85 crore for Cyclone Remal relief

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government has released Rs 19.85 crore to twelve districts of the state for relief to victims of Cyclone Remal.

This was informed by Meghalaya revenue & disaster management minister, Kyrmen Shylla.

“Overall, Rs 19.85 crore has been released to all 12 districts to extend immediate relief to the victims,” Shylla informed.

He said that the funds have been allocated to ensure immediate relief, allowing local authorities to dispense aid without delay.

“They can release the money and follow the procedures later on,” the Meghalaya minister added.

Cyclone Remal, which brought heavy rainfall and strong winds, has had a significant impact across Meghalaya.

According to the minister, the cyclone resulted in one death and five injuries.

Additionally, 5619 people in 271 villages have been affected, with 910 houses and 95 infrastructures damaged.

Shylla assured that the department, along with all government machinery, is fully alert and dedicated to providing safety and rehabilitation to those affected.
