SHILLONG: Meghalaya police has registered a case against leaders of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) for their involvement in an eviction drive targeting alleged illegal settlers in the Lum Survey area.

The incident occurred on Thursday (May 23) morning.

Superintendent of Police (SP) of East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, Rituraj Ravi, confirmed that the case was filed at the Sadar police station against several HYC leaders, including its president Roy Kupar Synrem, vice-president Donbok Kharlyngdoh, assistant general secretary Isaac Basaiawmoit, along with multiple other individuals.

“The case was registered in connection with the unlawful actions carried out by them in Lum Survey in the morning of 23/05/24,” stated SP Ravi.

He added that the investigation into the matter is currently underway.

The charges followed an illegal eviction drive by the HYC leaders and their associates in the Lum Survey area earlier in the day.
