Meghalaya: Not in rush to expand to Garo Hills, says VPP

Guwahati: Ardent M. Basaiawmoit, president of the Voice of the People Party (VPP), announced that the party is not rushing to expand into Garo Hills, Meghalaya despite interest from some influential individuals in the region.

He said that many people want the VPP to field a candidate for the upcoming Gambegre by-election.

Basaiawmoit stated the importance of the people in Garo Hills understanding the party’s principles before offering their support, as has been done in Khasi Hills.

Regarding the possibility of contesting the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council elections, Basaiawmoit stated that the VPP is currently focused on the 2028 Assembly elections.

However, he did not rule out the potential for changes in strategy, noting that future developments could influence the party’s plans.
